In the Philippines, a House committee on trade and industry is pushing for legislation which would require drug companies to translate drug labels into Tagalog. Rep. Antonio Alvarez, chairman of the committee, has stated that translation into Tagalog is needed in over-the-counter medicines as many Filipinos are now self-medicating due to the high cost of seeing a doctor. In the Philippines, health experts have blamed language barriers as a leading cause of pharmaceutical misuse or abuse. (Source: Philippine News)
