Rep. Antonio Alvarez, chairman of the committee, has stated that translation into Tagalog is needed in over-the-counter medicines as many Filipinos are now self-medicating due to the high cost of seeing a doctor. In the Philippines, health experts have blamed language barriers as a leading cause of pharmaceutical misuse or abuse.
