Whitesmoke (http://www.whitesmoke.com), a developer of software tools intended to enhance the work of English writers, has published a survey with the following results: skipped words tops the list at 32%, bad punctuation came in second (28%), incorrect use of verbs took third place (8%) and wrong capitalization came in fourth (8%). Other common mistakes include spelling (7%), incorrect choice of words (5%), spurious words (3%) and wrong use of tenses (2%). Whitesmoke has developed a set of tools designed to improve the written text of all kinds of authors, including medical writers, lawyers, creative writers and bloggers.
