ZDnet's Mitch Ratcliffe had some bad things to say about Google's free translation service, listing concerns about incoherence of its results. Ratcliffe went so far as to say that Google should pull the service altogether until it yields better results. Personally, I feel that it takes a lot of Chutzpa to tell a company that has invested millions in a free service to discontinue it. Everyone knows that machine translation is inaccurate and only good for getting the gist. Nobody would rely on a MT for anything of crucial importance. Does every Google search give you the best results? Probably not. Does that mean that Google should pull it's search engine too? The world would be a decidedly worse place if Google, Yahoo, MS and other companies would only release free services that were perfect. To my mind, if it's free then don't complain. If you don't want to use it, then don't.
GTS also has a free machine translation service which you can find by going to http://www.gts-translation.com/freetranslation.asp.
