Douglas Merrill, a senior Google executive told BBC News in an interview that Google wanted to provide users access to "all the world's information" and that was the reason online language translation was important. "We are doing a lot of work in our labs on mechanized translation," he said. "It (search) should not be stuff in languages we just happen to speak right now." Online language translation was one of several topics mentioned in the interview as important strategically to sustain Google's position as the search technology leader.
