Global Translations weblog reported last week that the State of Utah pulled Spanish language web content due to English-only legislation in that state (see http://www.global-translation-services.com/weblog/2006/06/07.html#a150).
With the increased media attention that this issue has attracted, news sources are now reporting that several US senators who support the English-only amendment also provide information on their Web sites in Spanish. Senators Lamar Alexander and Bill Frist of Tennessee voted in favor of the amendment, but both provide information in Spanish on their official Senate websites to curry favor with Spanish speaking voters.
Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss of Georgia voted in favor of the amendment and have English-only Web sites. However, spokeswomen for both senators said a Spanish-language option is among considerations as they make updates to the sites.
