Gulf Times--The Human Resources Department of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has set up a language bank to provide translation services for patients and visitors. According to the source, each hospital has prepared a list of its employees speaking foreign languages along with their phone numbers and their working hours. The hospital staff
would be responsible for providing translation for the patients even if the patient himself speaks the source language or seeks the help of a friend or relative.
The bank will have branches in all Doha public hospitals. The step aims at overcoming the barrier of language in HMC especially that some of the patients have frequently complained about the lack of communication between them and their doctors and nurses.
The language bank includes 117 employees who could translate into 136 languages including Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Hindi, Tagalog, Persian, Ukrainian, Prohi, Turkish, Malayalam, Plushi, Hausa, Dutch, Pashto, Minando, Tausag, Picoli, Tamil, Nepali and others.
