Itwales.com. A national database of Welsh language terms has been launched in the country. The Welsh Language Board's (WLB) Welsh National Database of Terms was launched last Thursday to help individuals from all walks of life find the terms they need to use, including terms from IT, education, retail and finance. The database can be used in translating software and can simplify the search for single or complex terminology. The site can be found on http://www.termcymru.wales.gov.uk.

Medicalnewstoday.com. The Asian American Network for Cancer Awareness, Research and Training and the American Cancer Society have launched a searchable online database of Asian language cancer materials. This effort is funded by the National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health. The Asian and Pacific Islander Cancer Education Materials Web tool is designed to help Asians and Pacific Islanders with limited English-speaking abilities gain access to information on how to reduce their risks from preventable malignancies, including cancers of the breast, cervix, colon, liver, lung and stomach.
The new database catalogues and provides links to print materials written in the following languages: Khmer, Chamorro, Chinese, Hawaiian, Hmong, Ilokano, Korean, Samoan, Tagalog, Tongan and Vietnamese, as well as English-language materials culturally tailored for Native Hawaiian populations. Additional languages and topics will be added as more materials become available. The new Web resource is located on the American Cancer Society Web site at http://www.cancer.org/apicem.

Using Google to find definitions of words and acronyms is easy: simply type 'define:term_word' in Google and it returns a list of definitions. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, Google provides options to view the definition of the term in foreign languages.
You can use the 'define:term_word' option on any of the Google language versions (e.g., google.fr, google.de) and Google returns the results in the default language of the Google you are using. But don't type in the translation of the word 'define' (e.g., 'defina' in the google.es Spanish version) because Google does not support it at this time.
